Cherry eye is not as pleasant as the picture above might lead you to believe. It's an affliction common in dogs with shorter noses - especially bulldogs and boxers. Lucky for us, Mugsy is a mix of both these breeds so it's not a surprise that he came down with it. It is "the prolapse of the membrane of the third eyelid" -- to me, that means that my poor little puppy has a big irritated red "thing" coming out of his eye. We took him to the ER at 2 a.m. on Monday morning and he got one of those e-collar things fixed on him. (Personally I think they call them E-collars because they look like those crazy Elizabethian collars that royalty wore 200 years ago)
We're taking Mugsy in for surgery tomorrow - to have the eye surgery and also to have him neutered. Poor guy!
